Tenacious D is one of those rock bands that is awesome for a reason beyond their music. Their rock/comedy style is unique and one of a kind. The same goes for Jack Black and Kyle Gass, lead singers and creators of Tenacious D. After their feature film "The Pick of Destiny" (which I will review at a later time!) the took a 6 year break and now they are finally back with their new album. The Rize of the Fenix, an fitting title, because I get a feeling that Tenacious D will rize to the top once again!
Not everyone like the style that the D follows. I should warn you that this is indeed a explicit album because of the cursing and sexual references. But fans of true hard rock and comedy will love the way the D makes their music. What's especially interesting with their new album is that besides their rock songs there are also some more "emotional" and touching songs. I think that some of these songs are very personal to JB and KG and they make this album even better! And of course in D tradition, there are also two skits on the album. These are very funny when you are listening the entire album but individual they may fall short. But hearing Jack Black with an Spanish accent putting his fingers in Kage's mouth is pretty hilarious.
I bought the deluxe version of the album and got two extra bonus tracks that can't be found on the website www.rizeofthefenix.com (where you can listen to the complete album, a wise move if you don't know what you are getting into). These tracks are a bit disappointing compared to the album, and I was hoping for a bit more of the rock songs that were on the actual album. With the deluxe version you also get the two trailers for the ROTF and three video clips. "Low hanging fruit", "Roadie" (personal favorite clip of the album) and "Rock is dead". And yes, as all the D's clips and even the movie, it's very very fake and cheesy. But I love it and for two extra dollars is it a nice bonus. My favorite tracks on the album are "The Ballad of Hollywood Jack and the Rage Kage, "Deth Starr" and "Roadie". But the album is great and if you have been a fan of the D, be sure to pick this one up! The D didn't mean to blow my mind, but it still happens every time!
Long live the D!
Rize of the Fenix gets Wreviews stamp of awesome for 10 out of the 14 tracks.

How Some Reviewers Have Different Opinions
Found this brilliant video review of the Avengers made by OGFurios. Remember that he is an comedian before you watch the video! And I don't agree with his opinion, but I did laugh. Enjoy the video and next week I will review a bad movie for a change!
Have a great start of the week!
