After a true lack of updates, welcome back to Wreviews. And today I review one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Does it live up to the hype? Are the characters still as awesome as in their own movies? Does Loki kick ass? (*Spoiler* YES!). Read on to find out if the Avengers is worth your time, in this all new, no spoiler review!
The Avengers movie has been hyped ever since Iron Man was released back in 2008. A movie with an all-star cast of Marvel superheroes? Yes please! So after 4 years of waiting, 5 Avenger "Set-up" movies and the announcement that Joss Whedon was going to direct the movie it is finally here. And let me get this out first. This is one of the best superhero movies of all time. All that was hyped is true and was well worth the wait. The action is top notch. The story (although very genetic) is great and good to follow, and the characters are portrayed exactly as the are supposed to be. Iron Man, The Hulk, Capt. America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow all matter and they are all relevant. You care about every one of them and they deliver some of the best dialogue in the movie.
The Acting is good, Robert Downey jr. is Iron Man, as is Chris Evens as Capt. America, as is Chris Hemsworth as Thor and so on. I was very interested in seeing Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. I really liked Edward Norton as Bruce in "The Incredible Hulk". But Mark Ruffalo completely nailed the character (maybe not the best description..) as Bruce Banner. He was smart and he was trying real hard to not become the Hulk. And The Hulk is awesome. I wished that he was shown a bit more though. He didn't "hulked out" enough in my opinion, but when he does, it's some of the best motion capture I have seen in a movie for a very very long time. But the actor who steals the show in my opinion wasn't Samuel L Jackson, or any of the other avengers but it was Tom Hiddleston as Loki. He was so much better than in Thor. In Thor he held back in his evilness in my opinion. But here he goes all out. He deceives people, he kills humans and set the Avengers up against each other. He made the movie even more awesome, and what is a great superhero movie without a great villain (Dark Knight anyone? :D).
The action is perfect. Explosions, Lasers, Arrows, Guns and Black Widow's kung fu action (Do we need anything else?). But besides the action there is great dialogue. I laughed so hard during this movie at some moments. The comedic timing is perfect. Tony Stark makes great jokes and is master of sarcasm. But it is also great to see Capt. America react to everything that happened to the world during his 60 years sleep.
There are great scenes between Agent Couleson and the Captain. And after you see the movie you will agree with me. But it is also great to see how Iron Man conflicts with Capt. America. And Thor clashes with Iron Man. They don't start off liking each other. They duke it out before coming to terms with each other. And that creates a great tension and conflict between the Avengers. One advice before going to see this movie, Watch Iron Man 1 and 2, And Thor. Since those two characters are the most important to know more about before going into this movie.
I did have a couple of problems with the movie. Very small problems but they still are problems. First the back story of Loki. (SPOILER FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THOR! Loki "dies" at the end of Thor. And this movie doesn't explain how he survived and got in contact with the Chitauri.)
Second, The plot. I won't go into detail, but it's a very very generic and predictable plot. Save the world, that's the deepest part of the movie. I know it's so much more than that but it isn't anything mind blowing.
And there is a character that needed a bit more attention, I think that that character deserved more attention and was "Bobba Fetted" (If you don't know what it is, think of what happened to Bobba Fett, how he was, literally, thrown away as an awesome character in Return of the Jedi.). I won't spoil who this character is and what happened to him. But if you have seen the movie you know who I mean. But these are my only gripes with this movie.
The Avengers is the best Marvel movie made so far. The wait and hype that has lasted for over 4 years have been worth the wait. The characters are awesome, The dialogue and interaction between the Avengers is fantastic and with a great villain this movie is FAN-TAS-TIC! The 3D is pretty good but not necessary. But this movie is a must for everyone. I mean why are you still here? Go see the Avengers!
The Avengers gets Wreviews Stamp of Awesome and a must see!
