God Bless America: The Pulp Fiction for the Next Generation

A few weeks ago a trailer popped up on the popular website 9gag.com. It was the trailer to a movie that was released back in 2011 and slipped underneath everybody's radar. I decided I wanted to watch the movie after seeing how much ass that trailer kicked. And this has become one of my favorite movies of all time. God Bless America is a underrated masterpiece with a message that is serious executed in the perfect way!

The movie starts out with our main man Frank. Played by Joel Murray. Frank is just the averaged divorced single father with a boring job in a office. Every night he watches TV and sees what America sees. The spoiled rotten brats on my sweet 16. The anchorman that comes from hell and says "what the American thinks" and the talentless idiots on American Superstarz. And Frank explains what went wrong with people of America. His inner dialogue is fantastic. Accompanied by his thoughts, he thinks exactly as I think when I watch TV and all the other bullshit that happens in real life (Fuck TV). And everything he says is true, people have changed. They have lost their polite nature and (most of them ) have become assholes. Than something happens to Frank that changes him. He decides that he wants to kill those who deserve to die. And this is when the movie starts to pick up. He begins by killing a typical sweet 16 girl on a college and runs. But he is followed by Roxy, played by newcomer Tara Lynne Bar. Roxy prevents Frank's suicide attempt and joins him to kill people who deserve to die. This leads to great comedic scenes and a very original story.

What makes this movie so great are two things. The idea behind the movie for once. We all know what has happened to us a society. We have changed. And the way they illustrate this in this movie is done trough the inner dialogue of Frank and his interaction with Roxy. Speaking of which, Roxy is probably one of the best kicking ass shooting killing destroying chicks out there. Seriously she ranks up with Ramona from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. She's not the standard sweet 16 girls you see every day. She is different from her parents, she wants to end all the bullshit, idiots and twihearts out there, and I wouldn't complain a second. How the two deal with their ideals and morals in done trough some of the best dialogue I've seen in quite a while. And I consider this movie as the Pulp Fiction of this generation.

Pulp Fiction accompanies the action with dialogue in a way not matched by any movie to this day. But I think that God Bless America comes really close. Pulp Fiction is really slow for some more viewers and the action isn't really that much of a focus. But this is where God Bless America succeeds. The action is relevant and straight up hilarious. I also find this movie to be a lot more engaging because of the modern theme's and actions. If you're a fan of Pulp Fiction then this is a must-see!The movie was also quite emotional. I found that the theme's are all relevant and also quite touching. It has an effect and I still have the characters and the story in my mind after watching it only once! Frank and Roxy have truly made their mark for me and they might be some of the best cinema duos in all of cinema! Since I'll keep this review spoiler free I won't go into any more detail but I would highly suggest you to don't watch the trailer, since it will kind of spoil the movie for you. You have been warned.

All in all God Bless America is truly a fantastic movie. The humor, action, emotion and dialogue go together so well and the director truly made this movie relevant for everyone because it deals with themes we see every day in our own lives. If you can't relate to this movie you have no soul, or can't see the humor in watching a 16 year old whiny bitch getting shot in the face in her car that was delivered in the wrong color by her parents then you truly can go watch Transformers 2 on Blu-Ray again. For all the other people out there, go see this movie and leave what you think about our TV society today in the comments!

God Bless America is blessed with Wreviews Stamp of Awesome!
Go watch this movie right now! It's a must-see!
